Mid-Twentieth Century American Pastels and Charcoal Drawings
This group is noteworthy for the extremely divergent handling of the medium of pastel by so many artists and especially by four highly skilled draughtsmen: Abe Blashko, Fannie Hillsmith, and Hugh Mesibov, all working with amazing precision, and Charles Keller using a highly expressive technique recalling the drawings of the German Expressionists.
Grouping by medium established an expansive subject range, from Anne RyanŐs stage set Ballet Casieda, 1944, and Sue FullerŐs Constructivist tour-de-force, Civilization, 1952, to Harry SternbergŐs Rainy Day, Springdale Washery, Lehigh Valley Coal, 1932.
Usually as a list stays open on the site I add subjects. That will be more complicated here as the medium is scarce within the artistsŐ oeuvres.
Works are in very good to excellent condition; exceptions are noted. Prices are subject to change and do not include frames, sales tax, or shipping.
