Work by WILLIAM BAZIOTES, MERVIN JULES, BEN SHAHN, MITCHELL SIPORIN, and MAX WEBER
in Art Interrupted: Advancing American Art and the Politics of Cultural Diplomacy (originally assembled by the US State Department in 1946). Following a controversy that forced an early closure to the world tour, this collection of modernist art was dismantled as war surplus in 1948. All but 10 of the original 117 paintings and watercolors will be on view.
