From 1931 to 1934 Axel Horn (1913-2001) studied at the Art Students League, NYC, with Thomas Hart Benton (Jackson Pollock was in the class), John Sloan, Charles Locke, William Zorach, and William Chappel. Will Barnet was another classmate. In 1935 Horn worked at the Siqueiros Workshop and from 1936 to 1940 he worked on the Federal Arts Project. He made murals for the Seaview and Bellevue Hospitals, the Welfare Island Nurses Home, NYC, and for the Whitehall (NY) and Yellow Springs (Ohio) Post Offices. Starting in the early 1940s he was an exhibit and display designer in the science and medical fields. From 1970 to 1976 he also taught at City College, and from 1976 to 1982 was director of The Bronx River Restoration, a community development program.
