GWYNETH LEECH   (Born 1959)
All the works shown here are from the Construction Series, 2016-17. Two major themes are explored: A new building on West 39th Street in process directly outside Leech’s 13th floor studio window and the Hudson Yards construction views mostly made from the northern end of the Highline.
Gwyneth Leech is a painter, printmaker, video artist, and teacher. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Postgraduate Diploma from Edinburgh College of Art. Living in Edinburgh, Scotland, 1981 to 1999, she showed in the Society of Scottish Artists Annual Exhibitions, and at Queen’s Hall, Edinburgh, 1987, Aberdeen Art Gallery and Museum, 1988, and Peterborough Cathedral, 1998, in honor of the murals she made for the Cathedral Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Glasgow. In 2011-12 her project, The Cup Drawings, was shown at the Flatiron Prow Artspace, NYC. Work by Leech was featured in Families/Cities SHIFT at the Susan Teller Gallery, April 5 through May 11, 2013. She is an authority on the work of her grandfather, the WPA-era artist, Michael J. Gallagher.
